There are a lot of complaint websites like Better Business Bureau, Consumer Affairs, Pissed Consumer, and others that allow consumers to post complaints about life insurance companies. Some of these sites are helpful, but some are nothing more than websites selling advertising (just look at all the pop-ups and ads on every page). They offer no voice, no useful information and no solutions.
We’re different. We offer a solution to life insurance complaints. We’ll take your matter to the insurer with the history, documents and legal support that will get your dispute resolved. The most common life insurance complaints we represent are:
- the insurance company is delaying payment of a claim,
- the insurance company has denied a claim,
- you bought a policy that is more than you can afford,
- your agent lied about how much money you’ll have in the cash value,
- your policy is going to lapse unless you pay a lot more premium.
One of these may describe your situation, or maybe yours is a little different. The way we begin is with a free telephone consultation to learn from you what’s happened. Then we’ll tell you how we can get your dispute resolved quickly and to your satisfaction.
Will it help if I call the insurance company and make a complaint?
Probably not. The reason we say this is because there are standard processes that life insurance companies follow when they receive complaints. A big part of the complaint process includes the need for documentation and proof. It’s not enough to give a written account of how you were harmed and how angry you are. This type of complaint usually goes nowhere.
Life insurers are looking for specific things that can prove you have a legitimate complaint, but they’re not likely to tell you what they’re looking for. Unless you have experience with the life insurance complaint process your complaint isn’t likely to get your claim paid or your premium refunded.
Can the Department of Insurance help me?
It’s best to think of a state’s Department of Insurance as an organization that has limited oversight and even more limited enforcement powers. A department of insurance oversees things like; the filing of new policies an insurer wants to sell in a State, proper form filings, an insurer’s financial requirements, licensing of agents, and other activities that have a lot to do with collecting fees.
What a Department of Insurance doesn’t do is make life insurance claim decisions. They won’t say whether a claim should or should not be paid. So, don’t waste your time complaining or letting them investigate. They don’t have the authority to do anything about denied life insurance claims or claims under a contestable investigation.
A Department of Insurance also can’t force a life insurer to refund your premiums. They might fine an agent for bad practices, and they might terminate an agent’s license, but that doesn’t get you a refund. That doesn’t put money back in your pocket.
Unfortunately, most departments won’t tell consumers these facts up-front. A lot of time can be wasted with nothing to show for it.

No I am not interested in your longterm that you have denied me after the first incompetent doctor performed surgery on my ankle. My employers allowed me to work on a torn ligament all year, coming to work using a cane that proved useless. Yet they would not allow me to return on a cane to assist in walking after a real surgery was done by an Indiana doctor. I, of course needed more healing time, so much so that I lost my insurance and have since picked up a different insurance. When I return to work I will be sure after 60 days to remove longterm. I find it pointless and unneeded financially when not being able to make use of it.

After being struck by a vehicle crossing the street, I was put on a leave to recover. New York Life initially had me down for FMLA, but switched me over to STD and made me jump through endless paperwork and phone call hoops for MONTHS before ultimately denying the claim, citing “insufficient coverage”. FMLA would have at least protected my position at work, but now I have no job security, no payment, and nothing to show.
Why switch the claim if you were just going to deny it?? I feel so cheated and lied to.

Mr. Craig DeSanto, the CEO of NYL,
I worked with your agent and purchased an annuity product on Nov 2022 (ref#74830818), I signed the document to allow NYL to transfer funds from Charles Schwab to my IRA account, but it has not been completed as of today, I was told the request was faxed to Schwab numbers time, and according to Schwab that there was no request was sent over and they have no reason to stop the transfer. I requested an NYL document to approve such processing, but it was denied till recently and showed the fax was sent to 818-615-1543, which it’s not Schwab’s fax number according to the VP of Schwab, I am so upset with NYL’s unorganized, unprofessional and poor communication processing, it’s rediculous and so stupid to face such situation. Please find qualified people to handle the situation, or I just cancel the order, find a public area disclose your poor job.

I have annuitized some $ with NewYork Life . They have done nothing right from the start. They quoted me one price then sent a check for a different number. This was corrected.
They are supposed to be sending money direct deposit but each month they told me they put it in the mail. When i dont receive it they say…OH….and then finally it get deposited late.
This has been for past 5 months. It is horrendous, each month promises of it will be fixed.
My only saving grace is my agent, he gets it corrected for me and i dont have to go ballistic . He gets to speak to a manager, most of us would stillbe on hold. He can correct it but it is NYL that is messing it up. How can a company this size have so many people on the staff that dont know what they are doing?
Careful before you put your money there!!!
