Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will it help if I call American General Life and make a complaint?
Yes. There are standard processes that life insurance companies follow when they receive complaints. A big part of the complaint process includes the need for documentation and proof. So, it’s not enough to give a written account of how you were harmed and how angry you are. You need to demonstrate how you’ve been harmed.
Life insurers are looking for specific things that can prove you have a legitimate complaint, but they’re not likely to tell you what they’re looking for. Unless you have experience with the life insurance complaint process, your complaint isn’t likely to get your claim paid or your premium refunded.
Q: Can the Department of Insurance help me?
It’s best to think of a state’s Department of Insurance as an organization that has limited oversight and even more limited enforcement powers. A department of insurance oversees things like; the filing of new policies an insurer wants to sell in a State, proper form filings, an insurer’s financial requirements, licensing of agents, and other activities that have a lot to do with collecting fees. What a Department of Insurance doesn’t do is make life insurance claim decisions.
Q: How long will it take to resolve my complaint?
It can take weeks to months to resolve a life insurance complaint, depending on the type of complaint, the documentation needed and the parties involved. We strive to resolve complaints as quickly as possible.
Q: What is the phone number for the American General Customer Service Help Center?
844-452-3832

I feel I was done wrong on mt life insuranse policy fron American General. I got a letter saying my insurance was goin up 250 dollars whhich was due before April 6,2026. So I called and was told about the increased, but no one told why. So I ask in i coulld cash in the policy for 10.000.I was told that I would only get 900. and some odd cents. So I canceled the policy in May,2026. I waited for the check to come and when it did I only 602.00. I had this policy sice 1995 and was never late with the payment. Is this how you treat someone and steal there money that they have paid in. I would very much like the 10,000 that I should have gotten. To me you stoled my Money. I canced it in May and should not been charged 250 the the policymwhen I had already canceled it. I want to know why this was done to me. That was suppose to be for my burial now my family has to come up with it,which will be hard. I believe I have been scamed.
